ABOUT JOHN STEWART
John Stewart studied Psychology and Philosophy at The University of Kent. He took his Bachelor of Science in Psychology at Goldsmith’s College, The University of London. He went on to do his Masters Degree in the Psychoanalysis Unit of The Department of Clinical Health Psychology at University College London (M.Sc.), followed by 4 years MPhil/PhD research. He has for the past 20 years worked with some of the worlds most distinguished and leading psychiatrists, neuroscientists, psychologists and psychotherapists in a number of different areas of practice and research.

John Stewart started counselling patients in 1997 and has now extensive experience in individual psychotherapy, couples therapy, family therapy, group therapy and psychodrama. He has attended many training courses and workshops in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) at The Institute of Psychiatry and The Warneford Hospital, Oxford, as well as intensive courses in Cognitive Analytic Therapy (CAT), Gestalt Therapy, Intensive Short-Term Dynamic Psychotherapy (ISTDP) and other specialised models of psychotherapeutic treatment. He did a 10 week course in Neuroscience at The Anna Freud Centre. His clinical approach is an Integrative/Eclectic Psychological Therapy. He has also trained in Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP) with Richard Bandler and his colleagues.

He has carried out research at The Institute of Psychiatry, The Institute of Ophthalmology and The Department of Clinical Health Psychology at University College London (UCL).

John Stewart has a private Psychotherapy and Counselling practice in central London (Knightsbridge and Fulham) where he also carries out creative week end courses in the prevention and treatment of Anxiety, Depression, Stress and Addiction. He is an Expert Witness carrying out regular Medico-Legal Assessments and assists in family law cases as an expert witness/therapist for law firms.

He teaches prevention of emotional health matters as well as treatment models, lectures, supervises other clinicians, writes for newspapers, magazines and academic journals and has a corporate coaching and consultancy practice for groups and individuals.

His underlying approach is pluralistic, using different psychotherapy, counselling and coaching models, developmental and experimental psychology, cognitive and affective neuroscience, spiritual practices and philosophy as his underpinnings.

John Stewart is a London Fellow of The Royal Society of Medicine, A Member of The British Psychological Society, the British Association of Behavioural and Cognitive Psychology, The British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists, A Member of The Special Interest Group in Coaching Psychology at The British Psychological Society and is a Member of The Society of Existential Psychotherapists.
